OneMic is an arts collective that was founded 5 years ago with the intention of uniting poets and artists of various backgrounds and styles in the pursuit of social justice. It has grown into so much more and we, the organizers, aim to use the power of poetry and art to raise funds and awareness for important community causes that range from after-school programs to ballot initiatives.

Next event is THIS THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 6th at Café Berlin. Doors open at 6:30pm. Show starts at 7pm. $5 at the door.

We are NOW taking names for the poetry sign up. If you'd like to perform, be sure to send a personal message to the OneMic inbox, and we'll get you on the list! Everybody gets 3 mins at the mic!

Obviously, we wanna hear your original work. If that was your plan, please stick to that...

But this month, I wanna encourage poets to choose INSTEAD, to share a poem or a short excerpt from a BLACK AUTHOR, POET, ACTIVIST, EDUCATOR, PHILOSOPHER, etc that has shaped or expanded your view of the world.

The piece can be old or contemporary. (THERE ARE SO MANY OPTIONS OUT THERE.) But practice reading it aloud, and then bring it to the stage this Thursday ♥
